Hi, Since most of you guys on this forum probably have and ride BMW's I wanted to see if anyone would give me some helpful insight. I'm on the market for an enduro and the f650 really caught my eye, I'm mainly concerned about the height of the bike and whether or not the height has changed much over the past 10 yrs. I'm 6'2" and my wife is 6'0" so I want to be comfortable. Any info would greatly be appreciated!

I'm sorry, I do not own or have (or want) a BMW.
Good luck

Both of you at once may be a bit much for the 650. Maybe a bigger bike would be better.

i dont have a BMW enduro. the man here that did. was incorrectly banned. its a shame because we went over those BMWs, he and i, extensively before he bought the big GS.
the 650-800GS shell game has been very confusing over the last several model years. i couldnt begin to relate how BMW swapped the namnes around and what feature were on what bike in what year. oldman67 could have. oh well.
my thought in general are 2 up enduro-ing is lame. so i guess you are more interested in the bike as a street bike. a friend of mine has one and loves it. she rides it solo however.
you might want to look at at least 800cc bikes. both by BMW and Triumph make a 800cc enduro i beleive. and i would much rather have one from those manufactures than say, japan. if japan was the only option......i would walk!!! LOL. not really, but i would check out the suzukis. i dont think they as yet make a bigger than 650 enduro though.

This is a bit old but maybe the person asking the question is still around. I think the F 650 GS is very nice for 1 person. A good all around bike that is an 800cc bike.
Here is a picture of the F650GS but they run around $12,000 and I think that is a bit high dollar.

I would go with a couple of G650GS bikes, one for each of you. They are tall but good bikes and you should fit them well. They go for about $9000.

This is my favorite G650GS and it is a real 650 but it might be a tad tall for me. It would work very well for steve since he is tall too.

this is a good looking bike. i agree the pricing is a bit over the top. but it looks remarkably clean for a bmw. if a low seat is available , i would consider one. (thats me, not the 6 ' plus original poster)

That bike was lower, Sheryl sat on the bike and really liked it but it was the price of about $12,300 before taxes she didn't like. She still had Her Harley at the time.
The regular F800 puts out about 9 or 10hp more than the F650 but the F650 puts out about 20 more hp then the GS650. But you really don't need that much hp because mine does a nice job with the pipe and rejet and I rode mine stock for over a year and according to The info in the link Annette put up, mine only has 33 hp stock.
Info on the real 650's : Looks like you'll have to copy and paste the link.. Duh

"We, have in stock the G650GS in Aura white and Orange/Red color both with Black/Red seat combination. The unit SRP is P630,000.00 excluding registration, insurance, and delivery charges."
thats from the philippine dealer in Quezon City. i am going to have my wife check it out when she is over there later this month.
that $15,000 USD, thanks to Obomanomics and Ben Bernacke thinly disguised quanitive easing buyback of US Securities this week. but in light of what they rape you for to import your own, its worth considering.

If you read the link I put up, it said the bmw seat slopes down and isn't as comfortable as the KLR seat. I have the same gripe about my R1200GS seat and there is no fix for me because I couldn't stand it any higher than what it is..
I guess thats why I normally grab the Kawasaki instead of the bmw most of the time. With this warm weather we have had the last 2 days, I grabbed the Suzuki first then got out the V-Max for a ride. Both the Kaw and bmw sat these last 2 days.
Only got in just over 20 miles on the V-max today before the black clouds rolled in spitting rain. Made it home and got everything put up, then it just spit a little and the Sun came back out.
I couldn't afford to get caught in the rain, the battery in that bike is running on borrowed time now. It only turns it over fast enough to start when you first hit it. After that she won't turn over and she is on the Battery tender. Go back 20 minutes later and it might fire right up or you might have to run through that routine one more time.
I think I will give this battery a try this time. This bike normally only gets ridden every couple of weeks just to keep everything working. Maybe this TruGel battery might do better.

DJ - Remember that the gel batteries require a different type of charger, the old school battery tenders generally will not work.
I'm not sure what it is, the BMW singles totally turn me off. I'd avoid them like the plague.
I'd like something along the lines of the KLR650 sometime, wish I would of jumped on on when they were on sale!
I had the FJ out yesterday, planning on another ride today.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a good day, if you're a duck!

Thanks for the battery info Steve, Guess I'll find out, the battery will be at the house around noon today. How does the bike keep the battery from losing its charge if it doesn't recharge in the normal way?
The F650 not only isn't a 650 but it isn't a single either, its a twin. The G650GS is a single and I was impressed with the 42 hp at the rear wheel compared to my 33 on the KLR650. I had also read that the bmw was really a tough little motor and should hold up well.
That said, the F800GS is a bike I thought I would really like but the over $14 Grand for that one with Taxes seems a bit much for an 800cc bike.
With the places I have to ride, I'm very happy with the KLR650 and the Suzuki DRZ400SM. Both bikes have treated me well and I really enjoy their feel at speed.
I think we are suppose to have rain today too, maybe the whole weekend..

New Motorcycle Boots and Bikemaster Tru Gel Battery came to day. Changed out the battery and added my charging wire to it that runs my battery tender and heated jacket if I need it.
I plugged it up to the charger and everything seemed to be working. Amber to start with means it was charging, then it went to green and meant it was at least 80% charged.
I turned it off after that until I take a reading with a volt meter to see if it needs more. As long as I know it was working, I shouldn't need to buy a different charger. The instructions didn't say I needed something different than what I have. But its better to be safe than sorry, so I'm glad you warned me Steve.
