My wife Sheryl has a Honda RS that everyone in the know, knows it is geared too tall and powered too low. So this is what we have done so far to make it a much better bike.

A Gearing change was neccessary because low gear was too tall and the bike has little power at slow speed. With stock gearing 4th gear would pull past 80 mph and not much happened when you went into 5th.

1 tooth down on the front sprocket made the bike pull better and 1st gear was much better.

But the engine still couldn't get enough air to pull much past mid range so you needed to know how to use the gears. Anything under 60 mph you didn't use 5th gear if you wanted any get up and go. Thats an overdrive or highway gear. Down to 3rd for 40mph curves if you want to pull hard out of them and hold it to 60mph before the 4th gear change. 4th will still pull 80 being down a tooth up front.

Sheryl was keeping up with me pretty well with her bike being set up this way when I was on my KLR-650 Kaw. A while back I added a DG Pipe to my Kaw then had to rejet it. Sheryl could no longer stay with me after my change.

So I replaced the stock air system with the Cobra PowerFlo which uses a K&N Filter, which I oiled. then hooked up the Cobra Fuel Mod.

Sheryl rode it first and really liked the difference. Honda must have been after good milage on the bike because Sheryl got close to 60 mpg But now I doubt she will be getting that because the bike pulls pretty well where it use to sign off.

The next step would be an exaust change but we like the looks of the stock pipes and haven't seen anything we like better. The way the bike runs now is good enough for her needs and I myself have fun taking it for a spin now too.

This fuel Mod by Cobra lets you dial in your FI, you will need it if you do any changes to your bike besides dropping a tooth on the front sprocket.

When I bought my Zuki DRZ-400SM it didn't run like the one I had test ridden and I was the first to ride that new test bike. It took me awhile but I finally figured out I didn't have a 49 state Motard but a friggin' California bike with all the smog crap.

So I went to work on the bike,, then put a full Yoshimura pipe on it and a JD jet kit. The JD jet kit is the best, you only have to do it one time to do it right.

I have over 10,000 miles on the bike now and can't wait for warm weather to ride it again.. dj

I rode my KLR-650 in stock form for about a year except for some windshield and tire changes. It was a little doggy and I was thinking a 650 Single should do better than it does stock.

I bought my Pipe for my Zuk on ebay so I went looking for something for the Kaw. I found a DG that looked pretty good and I was hoping not to have to rejet. I looked at every word and nothing said you would have to rejet.

So I bought it and it was a good price. 179.95 and free shipping. The package came sooner than I expected, it was like 2 days after I had ordered it and it came from California.

I opened it and the first thing it said was to rejet. *** So that night I got on the computer and got ahold of JD Jetting to see if they had something for my bike.

They did and a couple days later I had my jet kit. At my old age, I don't like tearing stuff off of bikes and really don't like taking apart bikes I have never had apart. But I finally got it done and put back together.

Everything works perfectly and the bike runs great. If I had the money I wouldn't even air up my own tires, I'd pay someone else to do it. When the weather warms up I need to change out that front tire..

Here is a link that I hope works to what the pipe looks like on a bike like mine. It didn't work, so I'll just post it.

Here's the pipe alone.

So I have worked on the Zuk, the Kaw and now Sheryl's Honda RS. My 2011 BMW R1200GS runs just fine as it sits and has a great sound to it too. My 1986 Yamaha V-max has had a K&N filter in it, but I'm not sure if i have the stocker or the K&N in it now. Nothing else was ever done to that bike, it didn't need it.

We added a new rack to Sheryl's bike Saturday, put it on in the rain. Today I find a slight problem with having the rack.

Decided to hook up a Battery tender to her bike just to make sure it was up to snuff for heating her Jacket. So I hook it up and nothing happens. Switched battery Tenders and checked the cords. It still wouldn't work.

I remembered the last time she rode the bike, she said she didn't have it on all the time. She never lets go of the handlebars when she is riding so if the Jacket wasn't on it must have blown a fuse.

So I start to pull the seat off and the rack is in the way. The seat has to slide back so you can pull the back of the seat up. The last 2 bolts have to be removed on the rack to lift it up enough to slide the seat back.

I left the first 2 bolds tight so it would hold the position because it is a *** to get a bolt through once they are out of alinement. I was lucky and everything went smoothly.

Changed the fuse and charger is now Green to go..
