They predected rain for the weekend but we thought we might be able to beat it Saturday with an early start. We ride more with the temperature than the time. Either waiting for it to warm up or trying to beat the heat.
Saturday we left about 9 am when the temperature was hitting 70 degrees. Sheryl was riding her new RS Honda Shadow 750 and I chose my favorite two lane bike, the DRZ400SM Suzuki.
Sheryl and I had new Helmets and this was her first time wearing a Shoei helmet. She wanted a white one like mine with the dark Smoke shield too. She looked real good in it on her white and black bike.
We rode down two lane roads with hills and many curves and several patched spots in the road. Some places had loose stone where they had patched it.
We came to one bridge with lots of broken tree limbs and dirt were piled up when that small creek had flooded the road and bridge. Trees were down by the creek too. It was hard to believe the water could have gotten so high, it always looks like a little trickle of water.
We only rode about 70 miles on Saturday but 70 miles on those roads gives you a pretty good workout at our age. I had planned to get back out in the Afternoon but it got pretty warm and we just stayed around the house.
Sunday we caught Bible Union Rd to Dresden, I love that road, and then hit 190 south. We took it to 105 and headed west towards SkullBone Tennessee. Lots of hills and curves on that road.
It had been clouding up and spitting a little rain as we went through Skullbone and headed for Bradford. You almost don't have to slow much for Skullbone it is so small and the store isn't open on Sunday. But you do have to cool it in Bradford but it doesn't take long to go through it.
We were running a pretty good pace down 105 heading toward Rutherford. We were running through an Amish type of area down there. Great looking gardens and farm land. Sheryl was keeping up pretty well down 105 in that area on her RS.
On a Saturday or weekday we could have stopped at the China Grove Store for great bread or a sandwich if thats what you liked. But we zipped on past that road since it was Sunday.
We hit Walnut Grove Rd just before Rutherford and took it to 89 and headed back to Martin. It was cool riding under cloud cover and the small amount of rain we had just helped to keep us cool.
I pulled over on the Highway near our house to trade bikes with Sheryl. The cars and truck were in the way at our place and Sheryl has a Hard time putting her bike up unless they are moved.
I get on her bike and fire it up, I let the clutch out and it feels like it isn't in low gear. So I pull in the clutch and kick it down a couple of times but it doesn't go any lower. So I give it more gas and slip the clutch to get it moving.
The highway is a 70 mph highway so I want to get some speed up. So I wind it up in low then shift to 2nd and what a Slug, my 400 Zuki would kill it. Good Lord, I don't know how Sheryl rides this thing.
We get home and Sheryl is so happy with her bike and new helmet. The Honda suspension didn't beat her up like her Iron did and her hands were still fresh instead of numb. I can understand her really liking her helmet but that Honda would have to go if it were mine.
I will say the seat felt good after being on the Motard seat for a couple of hours.
Taking a Break on 190 South at the Christmasville Rd.

I rode the Suzuki because it is the most fun and flys down tight two lanes with hills and curves.
I went looking for your post after reading your post here and did find it.

Sheryl taking a break at the bridge on New Years day wearing her cold weather Gear. Heated jacket and leather chaps make riding in cold weather much nicer.

Looking forward to some pictures of the new intake. Can you recap the mods and how well they worked? Motorcyclist should pay attention!

I think Motorcyclist should test it themselves, knowone helped me including all the magazines I subscribe to... Not like the old days when they gave us lots of help.
The information I got was from Joe Minton, when he was trying to make the 96 cubic inch Harley run better by using a Cobra Fuel Mod.
So motorcyclist can go to Cobra and buy the set up for the Shadow RS and try it themselves or do like they have been doing,,,nothing..dj

I think the gearing changes you made really woke up the bike, from what you said - correct???
And I think Motorcyclist does a good job, we always want more, can't please all the people -
But I can say, Annette pleased me by letting you back in the forum!
Now if we can get her to wear proper riding boots.....

Sheryl and I hit the road with the temperature at 48 degrees. We ran some of the normal 2 lanes we ride, then explored some we had never been on. Sheryl wasn't that fond of some of those because they turned out to be ones where they tar the road then pitch loose stones over it. But she did fine.
Our heated jackets have really made riding nice in these winter months. Here it was ,the 29th of January and we have never stopped riding our bikes. Her Honda RS and my KLR650 have been getting a pretty good workout.
Most of the roads were great, with hills that run up and down and lots of curves through woods and farmland. The traffic at early afternoon on Sunday was very lite, we hardly met or came up on a car. We gave everyone time to get home from Church before we headed out.
My Kaw was really liking the new pipe and jet job, its a real pleasure to run through the hills. The Pirelli rear tire works great, can't wait to put on the front when the stocker wears out.
We got home after a 62 mile non-stop ride and Sheryl couldn't stop talking about how much she liked the way her bike worked with the Cobra changes to her engine.
Then Sheryl fired up the Big Green Egg and fixed our Cornish Game Hen for our dinner as we enjoyed the warm afternoon Sun sitting on our back deck.. A very Nice Sunday Afternoon..
