Is Hateley in the garage-envy story the same guy who used to race socal flattrack in the late70's-to-80's? He had the last good running Turnip in a sea of xr750's and hondas.
Cool shop whoever he is.

Hey Joe,
Yes, John was a flat-track racer in SoCal. His dad owned Triumph of Burbank, and he ran mostly Triumphs. He was on the factory Norton team in the mid-1970s, as well. He went on to do a lot of stunt work, and still does a fair bit. Check that out at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0368813/.

Then I watched him race at Ascot many times. The drill was-leave San diego@5pm drink beer and watch racing til 11ish, stop @bob's big boy on el toro road and eat a burger with a flintstone salad, ride back to SD.
Next time you see him tell him he put on a great show.

A young whippersnapper like yourself may not realize it, but in the past- like pre Mcdonald's California Cobb salad- all food sold at fast food places was really bad. It was not unusual to go out to dinner with four or five riding companions only to return home alone-the others having died at their plates. The food was that bad. Just picking up the menu made a guy's fingernails yellow.
Anyway to your question: the salad (if you can call just lettuce a salad) came in a little tri-oval shaped plastic bowl that nestled into the corner of your main meal's plate. Kind of like the dinnerware Betty (the hot one) used to serve Barney (the enabler).
