I haven't ridden in 22 years. I used to commute, tour, ride dirt bikes, and do a little racing on drags trips, dirt tracks, and go-cart road-race tracks.
I quit riding after a 5:00 am breakdown, on a country road, 50 miles from home. I swore it was forever. I didn't want to live the lifestyle anymore.
In spite of my pledge, I've been looking at bikes for a couple of years, and doing some serious research on the current crop of bikes.
Anyway, I'm looking for advice, for and against, about getting back into riding.
And, is it possible to ride without being a total moto-addict?

Get back into it. Your life has been pointless and boring since you gave up bikes-that 5 AM breakdown was the most fun you've ever had.
There's nothing wrong with being a Moto-addict, it beats TV.

It's only been pointless and boring since I got married.
I even managed to hurt myself more off the bike than on, just not with the same frequency.
Anyway, My wife approves. She says she'd rather have me riding than reading bike reviews online.

Good work. Now that you've got her on the ropes don't let up.
You'll be needing a enduro-type bike for the trails, a crusier for drinking, and a rice rocket to get closer to God.
Try to keep them the same color- chicks can't count and she'll assume you only have one.

I disagree. Chicks can count to about ten. It'd take six or seven bikes before she wouldn't notice. I don't have enough space or money for more than one.
She wants a bike too. I could let her buy something, of my choosing.
But, I told her she needs a million dollar insurance policy. Even in a car, she's unsafe at any speed.
She doesn't understand that one of her little fender benders could send her to the hospital.
Anyway, Ill keep the advice in mind.

Smiley or not, that's what seems to happen to the majority. Hope it isn't really like that for you JB.
I had a mustang that left me stranded 3 times in two weeks, they're machines, it happens.
You're already leaning way towards second base so go ahead and steal it. Start again, I don't think you'll regret it.
One time around here on this planet, make it worth it...riding helps make it worth it.

Kawasaki's KLR 650 is the re-entry motorcycle for those that have been away for a while. It is affordable and reliable as a chunk of granite and almost as simple. It has a support forum second to none (http://www.klr650.net/forums/) and just about every accessory made can be fitted to it. And it really can go anywhere and actually handles far better than the moto-journalists will admit. It also can be enlarged to a 685 or 705 for less than $500. Many KLRs go past 50,000 miles before they need any major servicing (ie, valve adjustment), just change the oil, clean the air filter and go wherever you want.
