I am looking at used vtx 1800,s and i noticed that alot of people have a hypercharger on the bike. I was wondering how much more horsepower that it actually adds to the bike and is it a good idea to install that mod or does it overpower the engine

The hypercharger is only good for looking cool, it does not add any power and in more than a few cases, it costs power.

Why?

The filter is too small and restrictive.

How do I know?

I worked as a service manager at a Honda dealership for a few years.

Here is my suggestion to you - first thing to buy, a Power Commander.

Next thing, unhook and plug the vacuum line going to the intake flapper valve - I have pictures somewhere.....

If you want pipes, get them next.

If you want, you can also remove the airbox and open it up dramatically, further improving airflow -

I've tried the other controllers - go with a Power Commander, for a lot of reasons, I'll not say any more about that.

The vacuum line for the intake "flapper valve" is on the right hand side under the tank - it can be accessed without removing the tank, unhook and plug it - what it does it closed on a half (or more) of of the intake to quiet the engine down - removing and  plugging it adds a nice deep intake drone as well as some seat of the pants power improvements - and it's a free mod!

VTXOA or any of the VTX specific forums should have pictures of the exact hose, it is easy to find once you know where to look - I looked around and could not find my pictures, sorry!

Here is the "N" model I played around with one summer -
