There should be a law

Riding through Sacramento on a 90+ degrees day, I am in the number 3 lane and the traffic is getting thick. As I let off the throttle a Harley rode by me and I notice the passenger was a young girl around 8-9 years old. The girl was wearing a large full face helmet (which looked a too big), sleeveless shirt, shorts, and sandals. The Harley rider was wearing a beanie helmet, jeans, boots and short sleeve shirt.

This site made me angry since the young girl does not know any better but the adult should (?) know. I sped up and got his attention and pointed at my road gear (leather pants and jacket) and then pointed to his young passenger. He looked at me if I was *** The traffic slowed a bit more in my lane and let off the throttle again and lost site of them.

My concern was not for the adult who can make a choice in what he wears, but the young girl who does not have the choice unless protective gear is given to her. There is no law that would protect young riders/passengers arms and legs…but you better wear a helmet. A helmet is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment but why does the law stop there. I know I sound like a Nazi pushing the idea that children should be protected beyond a helmet, but who should make that choice? If an adult chooses to wear minimal equipment be my guest but don’t make that your children’s choice.  This is no different with seatbelts or a car seat that children need to utilize. Should there be a law to protect children to from adult riders….if you asked me I think you know.

No more laws needed, there are so many of them now we can't avoid breaking one drinking a cup of coffee.  Leave
Harley man and his soon-to-be-crippled kid be.

But what do I know- I crashed wearing flip-flops.
