All dressed up and no way to stop!!
being a loyal subscriber to MC for over, god i can't remember how long, probably got my first subscription when they were delivering on horseback. i have enjoyed our monthly enterludes, even my wife is jealous of our relationship and hides the new issues knowing that she's talking to a poll until i've finished reviewing the new arrivals. so i felt that is my duty to bring to light a problem that i have uncovered and even dexter ford has pointed out in his article about the long term testing of the 08 concour 1400. i instantly fell in love with this motorcycle due to its' sporty nature and refined abilities. it's a lightning bolt on wheels and smooth enough to drain tank after tank (@240 miles each)without tiring its' riders. even though it does have some faults but show me one that doesn't and i'll buy a dozen, one is the heat given off (have built a deflector shield to remedy that), another is hayabusas are always trying to keep up (goodluck with that!!)on their way to the chiropractor. but the main concern is this brake disc warpage, i'm on my 4th set of discs now, only getting about 7000 miles out of a set. their under warranty (3 years unlimited miles) but what a hassle, the 1st time i had to bring the bike to the dealership and leave it for a week, since then i can just bring the wheel in. i have contacted the manufaturers service rep but when asked if they plan to make a correction the reply was-" it's not our problem let the dealership handle it" which they do without hesitation.the rep even questioned my "riding style" but after stating that i've riden over 750,000 miles on other bikes and that these are the first brakes i've warped they didn't pursue that point any further. think about having to change your disc brakes twice as often as you change tires (avon storms getting about 12K), what a pain. dexter mentioned that the long term test of the concours had warped those discs and when i talked to the dealership they say they've replaced several sets on the concours and the ZX14 (same front braking systems) so it points to a manufacturing defect (either the discs are too thin or all (8) those tiny pads are putting uneven pressure on the discs) if their all doing it. was wondering what results that dexter got from his "phone calls" and what agency needs to be notified about braking system failures. i would hate to bring this into the legal realm but my conversation with the kawasaki service rep it seems that may be the only recourse, maybe a bit of pressure that doesn't bend metal is a good thing.
again thanks for your monthly life rings and please feel free to contact me for further detail and what results you may be getting about this problem. if you'd like some feedback on products (tires, chains, riding gear, riding hints) as mentioned earlier i've had extensive experience (750,000 of them) i'd be glad to provide them. thanks, TC
