I have recently purchased a Kawasaki h1 500 and the cases, carbs, etc. are a bit blemished on the surface. what is the best way to get them as close to original as possible? Media blasting? Dipping in some sort of solution? Any suggestions?

You have the clear coat off the metal, you will not win points if you think you can compete for show. If you polish and it is over-polished? You lost points. If it was stock as if someone parked a new bike, never touched it, you now have it in hand and if you move anything off that bike, you lost trophy.

You have to either commit to what is restored [as original] or like you said; dip it, blast it. I polish out my parts is keep it,'in house.' So, if you want to make it all you as the restore and do not care about points, a polish is a faster clean than having the media blast a new finish on it. It would not match original if you are after original.

With any cleaning, you need to wash it is warm soapy water so as not to contaminate the moving parts inside the engine.
