I have a 83 VT500 Ascot which needs the coils replaced. I have read the stock coils are 2.2 ohm but I would like to try a high performance coil. ie. Dynatech, Accel or Revtech.
I am wondering if I could use 3 ohm coils to replace the stock 2.2 ohm units? What are the pros and cons?
I have restored this bike from the ground up and want a reliable ride. I am just not educated on the whole ohms and resistance subject.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Join the club. You know a little, so you have a closed system the calls for that resistance. You start pushing .8 ohms is more heat. Maybe the coil won't last maybe it will. Think heat is the killer of parts or that which smokes the harness.
