I have an o7 vtx 1300 and I'm getting a noise from the speedometer housing Whats the cure I thought these were electrical but it sounds just like the old gear drive speedometeres when they needed oiling.

It is a pretty simple fix for this issue.  Take the chrome plastic speedo housing off and notice it attaches to the tank via some tabs welded on the tank.  Get some rubber orings, nothing too thick from Home Depot and place the ORings between the speedo housing case and where it attaches to the tank.  You can also do this for the speedo to casing slots.

After putting the orings in and screwing the mess back together go for a ride and see if the buzzing is still there, if so you will need to put some weather stripping around the speedo and its housing to create a buffer between the two.  That is a PITA so its best to give the oring fix a shot before you go to town.
