I heard this new magazine was coming out the end of April. Has anybody seen it yet? I was just down at Barnes & Noble and saw no signs of it.

Alf, thanks for the reply. I will keep checking in at my local B&N. I look forward to hearing what Mitch has to say about some of my favorite bikes.

Guys, thanks for your interest. The original April timing got pushed back a bit. We just received our copies in house, which means it should be on newsstands any day. Here are the major chains that we will distribute the magazine to: Barnes and Nobles Borders Books A Million Hastings Books Walden Books Safeway 7 Eleven Kroger Meijer Publix Fred Meyer H E Butt Macs Convenience Stores Stater Brothers Raleys
There are some dealers that will be getting it as well. If your local dealer has Motorcyclist magazine on the shelf, good chance they will have Retro too.
Thanks,
Marty Publisher Motorcyclist, Motorcyclist Retro (and others!)

And to quickly answer the question why no Nortons and Triumphs. There are a lot of mags out there that do a lot with old British bikes. Our take for this magazine was to focus on "newer", more affordable classics from the 70's and 80's. It all started in '69 with the CB750 and H1, and frankly the Japanese dominated this era. So while we will cover other bikes (Italian, American, British), the majority of edit will be Japanse based.

it sounds like Motorcyclist from that era. well, other vintage motorcycle mags dont seem to have any problem covering all makes. and to tell ya the truth, i recently subscribed to Motorcyclist because they currently give plenty of space to a variety of bikes, after years of japanese bias.
and what started in 1969? motorcycling? i dont think so. the throw away motorcycle? planned moto obsolete? the ujm as an appliance? perhaps.
there are plenty of British, American, German , and even Italian motorcycles made after 1969, most of which are collectable or have vintage interest the japanese bikes as a whole could only wish for. oh, and in case it was missed, some prety cool *** bikes existed prior to 1969 as well.
if motorcyclist wants to publish a sister mag on japanese bikes, fine and dandy, call it Pitted Chrome Magazine ore Mitch Bs' Japper Journal. but dont make it sound like a rip off of Rider Magazines ecclestic Retro Rides feature.

I was out looking for the new magazine today in Houston. The 3 places B & N, Border's, and Issues didn't know anything about it. I'm looking forward to this new magazine mainly because they will cover the dirt bikes of the 70s and 80s. There have been many magazines that cover old road bikes and loads that only cover Harleys. That great something for everyone but nobody does much on the bikes I grew up with and still race.

Been waiting for this since I first heard of it last year! Nice to have a magazine that caters to 80's japanese bikes as most vintage magazines don't. VMD 08....look for the Kawasaki ZL Owners Association in club row, stop in and have a beer <img src='/_siteconfigs/_global/images/community/bbcode/grin.gif'>

Hi Marty,
Nice work on the Retro mag. It should be a big hit, maybe we can do the Rock Store again this Summer. All the best with your mag, and how do I subscribe? Rick

To reply to a few points...Motorcyclist Retro should be hitting newsstands any day now.
The only way to get the magazine will be to find it on a newsstand. If you do find it, consider spotting your friend(s) some $$ and buying them some copies too. We know in some cases/areas it won't be easy to find. Frankly the financials of doing a magazine like this aren't easy, so in order to succeed we need your support. We made the magazine "premium", i.e. larger in size, and on higher quality paper than Motorcyclist. We also priced it higher, as volume is lower. It will be $7.99 on the newsstand. Most British and other vintage mags are in that range.
If we succeed with our first few issues, we will do more in 2009 and at some point hopefully offer subscriptions. In the meantime, we are working on getting the magazine up digitally on zinio for those people in rural areas or overseas that just can't find it (anybody else too). I will update this when we get this up live.
To address Hacksaw's comments, of course there are tons of great motorcycles out there. There are already other magazines (like Rider and Motorcycle Classics) that don't specify an era. There's not a big market here, so we chose to concentrate on bikes from the 70's and 80's...both offroad and street. Its not that we don't like the other bikes, just not enough room for another magazine there. We chose this niche because it interests us, and a lot of other folks out there. We hope it works. If it doesn't interest you, I'd recommend Motorcycle Classics if you haven't given it a read.
Rick - you're back! I've sent you a PM.

I am excited to get my hands on this magazine. As a Kawsasaki Triples enthusiast, I can not get enough of them in print. When I saw the cover in this month's Motorcyclist, my first thought was "how do I subscribe?"
I am hoping to find it this weekend.
