Oil leak at water pump

My '02 Kawasaki ZG1000 has a small oil leak at  the water pump. No coolant loss. Do I need a new water pump or will new seals do the trick for me? The bike has about 38,400 miles on it. The oil  leaks on to the exhaust pipe so I get that burnt oil smell and a slight whiff of smoke when I come to a stop. Not always but enough to bug me. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice.

It might be from the shift shaft seal, leaking on or near the water pump? Tom

Tom, thanks for the reply. I replaced the push rod seal about 3 months ago thinking that might be it but no dice. Since posting I have not had anymore of the burnt oil smell. I guess my Kawa just likes to puke a little oil every once in awhile to remind me that it's not perfect. I'm just keeping my eye on it for now.
