I always hate it when I read that the 'mainstream press' (whatever that is these days) never does 'good news' stories about motorcyclists and motorcycling. As a longtime reader of the this mag and a worker at Michigan's biggest newspaper, I'm hoping you take a look at the latest multimedia piece we've posted at freep.com -- it's called 'Fast Friends' at http://media.freep.com/roseylackey/index.html
It tells the tale of Roosevelt (Rosey) Lackey, a 70-year-old retired GM engineer and his team's effort to set a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah...on a motorcycle.
Our Mandi Wright and Diane Weiss, along with reporter Shawn Windsor, rode out to Utah with the team and produced a story, still photos and three videos. One of the videos is about Rosey, the other shows the crazy Speed Week scene, and the third takes you for a ride on one of the team bikes, using a lipstick cam looking through the windscreen on the front of the bike.
So if you want to know what it feels like to go 183mph on the Salt Flats (which is a mile in around 20 seconds) take a look!
Best,
Craig
