I know you guys hate it when people ask this question, but i have to ask it anyway because i dont know. I am like 5'7 and i weigh like 140...what street bike would you recommend for a girl my size? I know experience has something to do with it, and i dont have much. I rode dirtbikes as a kid, but everyone knows riding a street bike is way different than riding a dirtbike. So can you guys help?

Quick list ... Kawasaki Ninja 250, 500 or even the new 650R are all good beginner bikes with low seat heights. Susuki GS500 also fits the bill. There are also some small cruisers out there. The 650 is the newest and is slightly more powerful then those others, alot of people might also recommend the suzuki SV650. Twins seem to be a little better for new riders.

Jude hit the Nail on the Head. I have 12 years, 2 track schools, 5 motorcycles, 25,000+ miles experience and agree with those choices completely.

Its a good idea to ask. only thing is most guys will tell you to go way bigger than you need. you gotta be able to touch the ground and have enough power to ride thru the mountains. A lot of bikes are available to you. if you like the cruiser style I suggest a Vulcan 500. its low enough and powerfull enough to go coast to coast. Sport bike style is more limiting because of seat hight. the seat is not as comfortable as the 500 curiser but if your tootsies can touch the ground you got it made. Try the new kawasaki 250 ninja which will take you anywhere you wanna go or if you need the power a 500 ninja is a thrill. any of these bikes will work for you. dont let anybody call these starter bikes. a starter bike has training wheels and they must be pedaled. a motorcycle that can match any speed limit, get 50 to 70 miles a gallon and get you to any point on a map and make you smile all day. its a joy to call these motorcycles. and also insurance is cheap. you gotta sit on them to see which fit you the best. that's half the fun is finding the one you like. the other half starts the day you get it. have fun starting the best part of life

I am 5'2 and i weigh 115 and I started on a 1000 Suzuki GSXR. That was my first bike. I did take a MSF class @ MT Sac. I think everyone should take class before riding....You MUST always respect your bike.

I just completed the MSF and bought a Honda Shadow 750, it works perfectly for me at 5'5", the seat, controls and grips are just right.

Does the type of bike matter that much or do you just have to make sure you can touch the ground??
