Hello All- I am conducting a study on safety factors of different model street bikes- that includes all makes, and styles- from cruisers, to touring, and sport bikes. what I need from anyone willing is crash data- What time of day, who was at fault, what were the weather conditions- wet, dry, night, day, terrain- pot holes, sand, oil/ water?? was alcolhol involved, injury sustained- helmet/ no helmet- and weather it was a 1/2, or full face, involving animal- or car..... and last but not least- did you wear reflective gear, body armour, leather, is your bike customized- is any of it "low profile" i.e. taillights, brake lights, headlamps. Any data you are willing to take the time to give me would really be appreciated. Thanks so much!! & RIDE SAFE!

Start here -- www.clarity.net/~adam/hurt-report.html, or just google "Hurt report." It's the most all-encompassing study of motorcycle crashes, causes, results, etc.,. Most of the info is on the web, you can also order a full copy of the report. I'm not sure about info regarding reflective gear, customization, etc., but there could be some out there. Maybe Angie can provide some better info/newer reports or insurance studies, etc.,. I can't help but think that info on single bike accidents regarding oil, gravel, etc., will be highly inaccurate. I talk to guys who crash all the time, the answer is always "I hit a patch of gravel", and I'm convinced it's becasue they don't want to say "I made a mistake and crashed." No scientific evidence, just informed opinion. Good luck w/your study, I'd love to read it.

Careful. Data can be collected for any nunber of reasons. Better safety gear? Im all for it. More regulations and useless legislation ? Loose lips sink ships. So what side do you work for?
