I can't believer I'm seeing Dan Walsh exercising his little poison pen (or laptop) in this magazine.
I was very relieved when his articles stopped appearing in Bike, and now here he's popped up again.
I won't threaten to cancel my subscription (too much bother), but if he spews out as much drivel as he did in the past, I can't see that I'd be terribly enthused about renewing.

What exactly offends you about Dan Walsh's writing? You seem to be the only one with negative feedback so far. Just curious.

Did you ever read the series of articles he wrote for Bike?
For starters, he was very irregular on delivery of promised articles. Bike was constantly making apologies for not publishing the series as they hadn't heard from Mr Walsh.
#2. he seemed to spend his time touring the world staggering from bar to bar or jail to flophouse. We already have an image problem as motorcyclists with the general public, and I don't think Dan was doing anything but represent one of the worst views of motorcyclists.
#3. as a journalist, he was making some statements that were pretty biased and far from the truth as far as the communities he was in.
I've lived / worked / travelled in a lot of the places Dan wrote about, and he was presenting a very one-sided view of things. I'd be very surprised that the average citizen of some / most of the countries wouldn't be very critical of most of his articles.
I like the direction Motorcyclist has been taking versus the Kruiser / Kustom bike focus your competition (Cycle World) has, and think that the appointment of Brian Catterson and retaining Mitch Boehm in the group is a very positive step.
But Dan Walsh: That was the one section of Bike that I eventually stopped reading. I just hope to heck that his contribution is minimal.

I've noticed that the people who are most concerned about the image of anything they are really into are the ones who spent their youth tear-azzing around in said activity and now that they are too old to do that/not interested in doing that anymore don't want anyone else to do that because it makes them look bad.
Example, you spent your youth riding really fast in the twisties, but now that you can afford to buy a house up in the mountains those reckless kids are annoying you as you drive to Wallmart to buy toilet paper.
Suffice it to say, I'm pleased as hell that DW is being published in another rag. I'm a huge fan of Bike because it would publish pieces with some real flavor to supplement the regular material. Things like riding a Falco to Prague for a wedding.
