I was overjoyed to find Dan in print again after some absence { Or absinthe ? } from BIKE. I will renew my subscription immediatly. He is the slightly saner Hunter Thompson of jornalism.

Dan Walsh? In a US magazine? a guy from TWO on the masthead? It just keeps getting better!!! Honestly, I've always dug MOTORCYCLIST most of all the US rags, but found it lacking compared to the Brit stuff...they've always had an extra edge and more content pound for pound (wow, that's a GREAT double-entedre!)and a lot better used bike info. And Dan,well, he's just awesome. I hope they don't try to "de-saltify"him for US tastes (haven't had a chance to check out his new piece). He's definately a LITTLE non-PC, I can't see him allowing editors to tone hime down. HST/Dan Walsh...yeah, but I've never heard of Dan expressing his love for firearms (drugs and alcohol, however, he may be in the ballpark). Please, Mr. Catterson, let Dan be Dan, *** the people who write in offended/outraged, and watch him become what the magazine has been lacking since the late, great McQuide (I STILL miss that guy, almost like I knew him).

An editor's job is to edit, ***
No, seriously, I'd be a fool to edit Dan Walsh. The man's a poet. Every sentence is better than the last.

I know Dan wrote for BIKE, I was referring to Alex Hearn. Looks like Mr. Catterson, who actually responded to MY post(I'll never wash my typing finger again!!!), has some cool stuff in store for us! Finally got to read Dan's first piece today, from now on the new issue will NEVER sit for a few days befor I thumb through it. Seriously, I used to pay the big bucks (cause I've got that kind of cash) for BIKE, mostly to follow his exploits. Now, as for the bike to travel on, how far are you guys from Cupertino? Do I smell Multistrada 1100? Danhas the stones to travel that far on a Duck instead of some boring old reliable Japanese bike!! PLEASE!!

I say give Mr. Walsh SEVERAL thousand dollars , A Ducatti 916 , and send him off to cover the Barstow to Vegas Race, That should give you several months of intereseting essays. Thank you Mr. Catterson for replying, and if Dan is reading this, Congratulations on your new job. Please excuse my lack of research if Barstow to Vegas is no longer held. I live in S. E. Virginia. Believe me , that is a good excuse.

I just read Mr. Walsh's piece in the latest issue of my favorite motorcycle mag. After the first paragraph I was hooked. Looking forward to more of his irreverance in future issues. I know change is in the wind at Motorcyclist. So far I like it.

Yea, reading Dan is gonna make my toilet visits a little more interesting. But word to the wise.... never lend him money or tools. And keep the sheep penned up as well. If you see him...tell him Im looking for him. M

Wow, I've been in a remote part of Alaska for the past 4 months. I get back and find all kinds of changes going on here. Very cool to have Dan writing for motorcyclist. Now maybe I won't have to fork over the big pounds at bdalton to get my Brit fix. I am really happy for Catterson. I've enjoyed his stuff for years, but I do feel the loss of big Mitch. I've never met the man but I feel that I grew up with him. I began club racing the year he took over. It just always seemed like a given that he would skipper the ship. Time moves on I guess and I am psyched about having BC running the show. Hope to see things from MB though.

Just top let you know, having DW write for you guys is going to make me subscribe again.
Anyone know if his earlier round-the-world essays have been published in something resembling a book?
