Out of curiosity, which bike do you think is better and why?

Having had the opportunity to ride both, I'd love to say the Triumph. The engine is great, it's super light, STRONG brakes, nice handling(I need a stiffer rear spring---NOT the bike's fault, but I am planning on suing the fast food industry), and non-generic styling. And then there's the exhaust note, which I would love to hear with a real exhaust. BUT... I have been wholly unimpressed by the fit and finish of the previous gen Triumph sportbikes--tarnished aluminum, rusty fasteners, faded paint.etc. They just seem to age harder and faster than the Japanese (and even the Italians). Seems to me that the English should know how to build a bike that holds up to the elements. But the bike is so amazing I'd probably take my chances. Can't find any real fault with the Gixxer, other than it's ANOTHER Gixxer--great build quality, maybe not quite as well finished as Honda but with more than enough personality to make up for it. And of course, it's for all the right reasons (they're great bikes), but I hate seeing my bike over and over, and Gixxers are a dime a dozen. Far more 600's and Thous than 750s, which is just WRONG. I had the opportunity to have breakfast w/Kevin Schwantz a couple of years ago, and he told me he feels the 1000 is a bit too much bike on the street. For him. Schwantz. Chances are,he rides better than you. All in all, it comes down to taste. I don't think you can go wrong w/either, but experience tells me that the Gixxer is gonna look newer 20,000 miles down the road. But you might see 20,000 Gixxers in that time. Ahh, to hell with it, I want an S4Rs, anyway.

I dunno, I like the 1000 on the street just for its torque. However, I ride a 750 these days...

I hate it when those that reply don't answer the question asked, but I'm gonna do it anyway. From every one's rave reviews, maybe the new Honda CBR600 has the best of both worlds. I know it's smaller, but it seems to have excellent mid range. Between that and it's build quality, I think I'd go with the Honda. What I found out last year was I could get a GSXR750 for less OTD than the lower MSRP Triumph because of the greater availability of the 750. When I test rode the 675, I was less impressed than many with it's comfort and mid range. To me, the 750 doesn't quite have the sound quality of the Daytona, but it's fit & finish are superior and will last longer. And there's tons of accessories to make it anything you want. I'd go with the GSXR750 between those two. Cheers, Jack

Obviously this is down to personal preference, but I agree with you about the 675's ergos. I have a 34 inch inseam and I found the riding position to be brutal. It felt like I was doing a handstand on the bars. I had a hard time concentrating on the incredible engine because during the 5 minute test ride my right hand started going numb.
The GSXR750 is certainly more comfortable, and it's got that top end rush that only an I4 can deliver. Then again, they are sorta squiddy and you see em everywhere.
Like I said, personal preference.
