Has anyone tried the on-board video camera mount from sportbikecam.com? What do you think?

We've used it for multiple track days...It's terrific. Check out the videos at ducatiomaha.com, all were shot using the sportbike.com camera mount and the quality is great (the mount is better than the camera)!! No reservations, recommend to anyone.

The only problem I had was the vibration factor. When I used a digital video camera, it kept turning off. I switched to film and didn't have any issues.

That's odd, Angie. We've never had any issue w/our digital camera. As I said, it's a piece of junk, but... Maybe you should get a crummy one? The vibrations shouldn't be turning the camera off. Can you tell, is it actually causing the camera to turn off at the switch or is it perhaps making the battery pack lose contact? I'd definately say it's an issue w/the camera and not the mount (of course the problem WILL be in the more expensive component!!!).

I have talked to a few others who hava experienced the same problem. I don't think the battery pack is losing contact. Some cameras have a default setting to turn off when there is too much vibration. Perhaps that was it.

I think that depends on the quality of the mount device. If has to absorb the vibes that comes through the petrol tank. The ones that work perfect are mounted on the helmet with duct tape. You carry the camera
in your back and the lens in the helmet, so the vibes does not affect the lens nor the recording.
Samsung has one that comes with an elastic strip for the lens to be mounted in the head.

We received some feedback on the camera mounting system that we reviwed in the magazine and I wanted to share it:

"I just finished reading your article on the Sportbikecam mounting system.
As I have just recently purchased one and tested a few different cameras on
it it was interesting to see your consensus on it.  You say that an HDD
camcorder worked for you, but it did not for me.  The vibration from my
motor shook the thing to peices before I could leave the parking lot.  I
tried to put all sorts of vibe dampening devices between the camera and the
mount but nothing seemed to work.  I ride an '05 Monster S2R.  Since it's a
v-twin I'm guessing the vibes might be worse than the four cylinder sewing
machines you guys might have tested it on.  Long story short, the only thing
that works for me is Mini-DV tapes.  Just something to consider.   A friend
of mine also told me that for jsut a little more cash you can buy shock and
vibration resistant/proof cameras from Sony.  you won't find them at any
local store, but it may be worth the extra cash and homework for people who
have just too much vibration for ANYTHING to work.  I am currently using a
Panasonic PV-GS59 and it works very well.  Though the Picture clarity is
less than HDDVD quality, it does every bit of the job I need it to.  Thanks
for being one of the best motorcycle pubs around.  I can't stop renewing my
subscription."

Even if your camera is really jerky and not well stabilized, you can use Apple Shake to make it look very smooth...After Effects is just ok, but Shake is amazing.
