Unfortunately, nothing works better than work. Check the papers, CycleTrader (if it's available in your market--if not their website is awesome), local dealers (pay more but have some back-up). Another great source are the rider forums dedicated to specific makes/models (ducati.net, svrider.com,etc.,), especially if you know what you want. Superbike planet also usually has 120 or so used sporbikes listed. E-bay can be OK, but a lot of sellers don't practice full disclosure AND a lot of buyers seem to have unrealistic expectations (ie, a 5-yr-old bike w/ 18K mi is not gonna be flawless,it's a used bike). Also, expand your search area -- I have no problem doing a 1200 mile round trip to pick up a bike if it's the right one at the right price--just make sure the seller knows what your expectations are and that you will NOT be a hppy guy if the bike isn't all that he claims. That being said, finding used bikes can be NEARLY as much fun as riding them... any moron can shop for a new bike, but it takes talent and dedication to find the right used bike and, hopefully, get a screamin' deal on it. Good luck, keep posted as to how you make out.

What Sloth said. I found mine on Cycle Trader. Also check out Craigs List. You can keep it local or go national. I check it out almost every day just to see whats come up on the market here in the Dallas area. You can get some great deals on used bikes. Like Sloth said it's fun finding that just right used bike. Good luck. Let us know what you end up with.

I cant tell you how many immaculate Ducati's are for sale that where purchased on a whim. In addition they can usually be found with some very expensive add ons.
Half the fun is the search, allot like treasure hunting.
An amazing bike that is readily available is the 749. Not usually purchased by abusive young owners like the Japanese 600 sportbikes for sale. They often can be found in mint condition with low miles. One look at the owner can tell volumes about his care or lack of for the bike. I know, Im riding one right now.
Good Hunting,
Doc

Stay away from e-bay. Allot of fun to browse and look at pictures but ripoff artist rule the day. Even some otherwise good or safe buys are greatly exagerated. It was good at the beginning. Go check out the used bikes at dealerships, always nice to know you can get it repaired or serviced by the seller as well.

You want an excellent used bike , bulletproof and just the best out there . Goto ZRXOA.org and look at the bikes the members are selling. You can pick up nice 02 ZRX1200's for the 3500-4K mark.Go back to the ZRX1100 and you are talking < 3K. Not a bike for a newbie , but if you have any experience , a wonderful bike that does it all . This forum is the BEST Owners group on the web , I know Im a member

Ive found that when searching for a used bike the harder you look the more frustrating it gets. I am so tierd of the websites that make you jump through like a million hoops just to contact the seller. I personally do not like creating accounts its a waste of my time. Anyways I just bought a 2006 Harley Heritage Softail Classic love the bike and I didnt really have to kill myself to purchase it. My advice for those of you that are looking for a bike that is used is to make sure you trust the site and dont give out too much information. If anyone is interested in the bike I bought check it out. Take care.

If your looking to buy a used bike, joining an owners forum for the kind of bike or bikes your interested in first is a real good idea, first of all you'll get to learn about any potential issues with the type of bike and likely if you buy from someone on the forum, they will probably have posted issues with that particular bike before.

Hi - could someone please tell me where I can find the value of an older bike? My husband had a Hondamatic CM400A (1979) that I would like to sell - but I have no idea of what to ask. TIA Misty4th

If you go to eBay, try to find local bikes (within 25-100 miles) and make SURE that the seller has great feedback. I bought my 2007 KTM Super Duke from a fellow on Long Island for$11750, and I couldn't have done better!
